Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi’s first “Made in India” phone will be launched today by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Visakhapatnam, where Xiaomi is expected to announce its intention to set up a manufacturing base near the city.
In a teaser on twitter, Xiaomi said, “Unmistakably Indian, don’t you think? Big news coming up tomorrow. RT and take a guess what it might be!” and prior to it another tweet said, “Unmistakably Indian, don’t you think? Big news coming up!”.

Under the ‘Make in India, Made in Andhra Pradesh’ program, Naidu will launch the Xiaomi’s first India-manufactured phone and Xiaomi is likely to announce its future expansion plans at the release of the phone. Manu Jain, CEO of Xiaomi India and Hugo Barra, VP Global Xiaomi will be present at the phone launch program.
India is Xiaomi’s second biggest market after china and the phone maker has already swept the market in the budget range giving tough fight to major rivals like Apple and Samsung in India. Xiaomi India has entered the manufacturing in India phase as per the plan disclosed by the company last year.
