Lenovo Phab Plus Launched with Snapdragon 615 SoC, 4G LTE in China

Lenovo has launched its latest phablet, Lenovo Phab Plus in China. It is available in Grey and Silver colors and is priced at 2,599 Yuan (US$407 / Rs. 27,040 approx.) in China. You can get the phablet from its official website. So far, there is no word whether Lenovo will be launching its Phab Plus smartphone outside China.

Lenovo Phab Plus features a 6.8-inch (1080 x 1920 pixels) Full HD display powered by 1.5 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) processor with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB LPDDR3 RAM. It has an internal storage of 32GB and can be expanded via microSD up to 64GB. It sports a 13MP rear camera with dual tone LED Flash and a 5MP front facing camera. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with Vibe UI on top and has 3500 mAh battery.

Motorola Updates Camera and Gallery App with New Features

Motorola has updated its Camera and Gallery Apps for Android with some new features. Now the new version of app in the Play Store for Camera app is v5.0.47.7 and Gallery app is v520012.

The new Camera app adds a QR/barcode viewfinder feature that allows the app to recognize and act on QR codes and barcodes, meaning that you don’t have to install a separate app just for that purpose. This feature is supported on the Moto X (2nd Gen.), Moto X Pro, DROID Turbo, Moto Maxx, and Moto Turbo on Android 5.1. This Camera update also includes bug fixes.

The new Gallery app now allows you to move the albums to an SD card. It also lets you organize your photos and videos into albums.

Instagram Adds Landscape and Portrait Support for Photos and Videos

Now you can post photos and videos in portrait and landscape mode too in Instagram. Yes, Instagram is rolling out update, in addition to square photos you can now share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape orientation on Instagram. 

"One in five photos and videos posted on the service do not fit the square format", "Friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can't capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end,", Instagram said in a blog post.

Apple Schedules New Product Event for September 9

Apple has started sending out press invites for its next big event. This will take place on September 9 at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. The company is expected to launch new iPhone model. 

The email invitation includes a colorful Apple logo with the sentence "Hey Siri, give us a hint," referring to Apple's popular digital voice assistant. "You'll have to wait until September 9. I bet you were one of those kids snuck downstairs to open presents early, weren't you?" one of Siri's responses read. "The only hint I can give you right now is a hint of lime. And that there's a big announcement on September 9," the second one noted.

The event kicks off at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (PT) or 10:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) on September 9th at Bill Graham auditorium in San Francisco, California. Apple will also offer live stream for the event, surprisingly Windows users too can watch the event, but it works only on Microsoft Edge browser on Windows 10.

Cyanogen OS 12.1 Based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for OnePlus One Now Available

OnePlus One users can now update their smartphones to the latest Cyanogen OS 12.1. The update brings the Android version of the device up to 5.1.1 Lollipop. Cyanogen OS 12.1 update based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and it has started rolling out the OTA update for the users. 

The new update brings changes in New Icons for File Manager,Camera,Gallery App,Audio Fx. It has also enabled the home button option in Chrome and it is set to open Bing by default. The touch is very responsive and fast, Integrated True Caller and has new Calendar Application

The full update is about 645MB in size and comes with build number YOG4PAS1N0, and will update the OnePlus One to Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop regardless of the build/ version running on the handset. Flipkart Adds New Social Feature to its Mobile App with Ping

Flipkart has added a new feature in it's app dubbed Ping. The news feature lets users share product images and chat with each other while shopping. The feature has been rolled out to the Flipkart apps for Android and iOS, but users need an invite to access the feature. Users who already have a feature in their app can invite other people in their phone book contact by simply sending an SMS.

Ping is visible as a chat icon floating on the right hand side of app. With this feature you can have real time conversation with your friend, share images, wishlists and items in your carts and get their feedback on the product that you want to buy. Now you don't need an email address to register on the app, simply register by entering your mobile number.

Peeyush Ranjan, CTO and Head of Engineering, Flipkart, said that the feature uses highly advanced architecture to ensure that communication is efficient even on 2G networks, and will also support Android wearables in the future.

LG G Pad II 10.1 Launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, 4G LTE

LG has launched the latest tablet in the G pad series dubbed LG G Pad II 10.1. The new LG G Pad II 10.1 will be showcased at the upcoming IFA event in Berlin next month. The tablet will be available in Wi-Fi only and LTE models and will go on sale in markets in North America, Europe and Asia. The company is likely to reveal pricing and exact availability of the tablet locally at the time of launch. 

The new G Pad II 10.1 tablet also comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office suite of apps and will also feature an additional 100GB of free OneDrive storage for two years.

OnePlus 2 Kernel Source Now Available to Download

One Plus has made the kernel source for One Plus 2 smartphone public. The company's CEO Carl Pei announced on Twitter that the kernel source for the OnePlus 2 is now available to the public via GitHub. The kernel will allow developers to create custom ROMs for the device.

Huawei Honor 7i Launched with 13MP Rotating Camera, 5.2-inch 1080p Display

Huawei has launched it's latest smartphone in the Honor series, Huawei Honor 7i with 13-Megapixel Rotating Camera. It is available in White and Gold Colors. The rotatable camera allows the 13-megapixel rear camera to flip 180-degrees to click front facing images. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor that is present on the side of the smartphone. With the fingerprint sensor you can unlock the phone and even use it as a camera shutter for capturing selfies. 

The Huawei Honor 7i has been priced at CNY 1,599 (approximately Rs. 16,500) for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant, and will be available via China Mobile. The same variant will be available at CNY 1,699 (approximately Rs. 17,500) via China Telecom and China Unicom. The 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage variant will be available at CNY 1,899 (approximately Rs. 19,500) on all three mobile carriers. No word on global rollout yet.

Meizu MX5 to be Available Exclusively via Snapdeal Soon

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu has announced that the registration for its flagship smartphone Meizu MX5 will be exclusively through Snapdeal. The smartphone is likely to be launched on August 26, when Meizu is holding a brand launch event in New Delhi. There is no word on the pricing of the smartphone yet.

Google Launches Standalone Website for Hangout

Soon after unveiling the name for Android "M" - Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Google has launched a standalone website for Hangout. 

Jordanna Chord, in a Google+ post said, "We are launching another way to use Hangouts today.  From our new site you'll be able to take advantage of the best of Hangouts in the browser, along with an inspiring image to get you through the day. Check it out and let us know what you think".

The website offers all the features that are present on Gmail and Google+ like users can carry multiple conversations and make a voice or video calls. The chats pop up in the same way as they do in Gmail, when a conversation is clicked from the list shown on the left side of the new website. 

Back in April, Facebook had launched the standlone website for its messenger.

Marshmallow Is the Official Name of Android M

Google had launched the newest version of Android in their annual summit and had called Android M. Hope everyone was wondering what does that "M" stand for? Now, Google has revealed the name for it's newest operating system and it's called "Marshmallow".

According to the official blog post, "Whether you like them straight out of the bag, roasted to a golden brown exterior with a molten centre, or in fluff form, who doesn't like marshmallows? We definitely like them," wrote Jamal Eason, Product Manager, Android in the blog post. "Since the launch of the M Developer Preview at Google I/O in May, we've enjoyed all of your participation and feedback. Today with the final Developer Preview update, we're introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow."

The new version of Android is going to be Android 6.0 Marshmallow, The final Android 6.0 SDK is now available to download via the SDK Manager in Android Studio.

Android "M" comes with large number of new features which includes features like Android Pay, Tap on Now, app permissions manager, built-in support for fingerprint scanner, as well as support for the USB Type-C standard.

The Android emulator system images and developer preview system images have been updated for supported Nexus devices (Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 & Nexus Player) to help with your testing. You can download the device system images from the developer preview site. Also, similar to the previous developer update, supported Nexus devices will receive an Over-the-Air (OTA) update over the next couple days.

So these days if you have an internet connection of a Wi-Fi connection, then everything is complete in your life. Realizing the need of the Internet in everyday life, two commerce graduates decided to give free WiFi to people in exchange of a cleaner surrounding with an unique initiative — a ‘WiFi Trash Bin’.

“When somebody dumps trash into a dustbin the bin flashes a unique code, which can be used to gain access to free WiFi, says Prateek Agarwal, one of the two founders of the initiative. Mumbai-based Agarwal and his partner Raj Desai, a self taught programmer, travelled extensively to countries like Denmark, Finland, Singapore etc and realised that keeping surroundings clean needed apart from a difference in structure, a change in the attitude of people. ”We took a lot of help from countries like Finland, Denmark, Singapore etc and decided to build a system similar to that,” says Pratik.

The duo hit upon the idea while visiting the NH7 Weekender a music festival which is spread around a large area and as music festivals go is home to music food drinks and of course a lot of garbage. ” …It took us six hours to find our friends. Since there was no network, we could not reach them through a phone call. It was the trigger for the idea and we thought why not provide free WiFi to people using hotspots,” says Pratik.

The venture, though not operative now aims to satisfy the need of Internet at every step in the modern day world. ”… We want to work more for it,” says Pratik. The duo say they tend to setup a network of WiFi bins thus helping to bring about a behavioral redesign among people. The venture was recently showcased at “Networked India”, a unique initiative by Ericsson and CNN-IBN that aims to identify and facilitate clutter-breaking innovations in the field of connectivity and mobility.

Government Extends Deadline for Comments on Net Neutrality

Stakeholders awaiting the government's guidelines on net neutrality may have to wait longer as some more time has now been given to the people and institutions to give their opinion on the recommendations of an official panel on this subject.

"Last date for submission of suggestions and comments on report of committee on net neutrality through the discussion forum under www.MyGov.in has been extended till August 20," an official communique posted on the website of the communications ministry said.

The report, submitted by a panel headed by technocrat A.K. Bhargava, was made public on July 16, and said it favoured, among a host of other matters, an end to the free-call regime over the Internet. This had evoked strong resentment among the netizens.

Still an evolving concept, net neutrality calls upon government, Internet service providers and other stakeholders to treat all voice and data services on the Internet equally, and not levy differential tariffs for usage, content, platform, sites, application or mode of communication.

Reacting to the protests over the panel recommendations, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had told parliament soon after that these were only suggestions and not the final view. "It is neither the final report, nor has the government taken any final view," he said.

"Based on the committee report, comments and suggestions received and recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the government will take a considered decision on various aspects of net neutrality, in the best interest of the country."

In a set of recommendations that could have ended the free regime for domestic calls made through Internet messenger services such as WhatsApp, Viber and Skype, the official panel has suggested that they be treated like regular telecom service providers for tariff and regulation. But it wanted messaging free of tariff.

This post will guide you in adding repositories in Kali Linux 2.0 Kali Sana. 

The single most common causes of a broken Kali Linux installation are following unofficial advice, and particularly arbitrarily populating the system’s sources.list file with unofficial repositories. The following post aims to clarify what repositories should exist in sources.list, and when they should be used.

Any additional repositories added to the Kali sources.list file will most likely BREAK YOUR KALI LINUX INSTALL.

Please follow the commands below to add the repositories

Open source.list by entering the following command in terminal

root@kali:~# vi /etc/apt/sources.list

or

root@kali:~# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Copy and paste the following repositories(make sure you delete everything from the opened source.list file first)

Finally Twitter Removes the 140 Character Limit from Direct Messages

It was back in June that Twitter had promised about removing the 140 character limit for Direct Messages. With the latest update Twitter, there is no limitation of the 140 characters to the Direct Messages. Now, users can send direct messages upto 10,000 characters.

The update had been rolled out for Android and iOS apps. The 140 character limit has also been dropped for Twitter for Mac and Tweetdeck.
