Linux System Administration Essentials Course by Linux Foundation

Linux System Administration
Linux System Administration
Are you an aspiring tech professional? Then learn Linux to build a strong career in technology. As reported by tech job site Dice, in 2013 senior Linux administrators made it around $90,853. Last year too, Linux job demand increased as salaries and bonuses have seen a significant hike.

So, do you know what you actually need to do to earn that big? Simple, learn Linux. Basics are also very easy. Download a Linux distro and start experimenting. But if you want to become a serious professional, then go for a certification and have a grip on your Linux skills. The latest certification is the Linux Foundation Certified SysAdmin and Engineer, which is quite a popular one and not so easy. Yes it’s damn hard. Even top Linux professionals have failed in these tests sometimes.

Get a “Essentials of System Administration” class at the Linux Foundation to get rid of the difficulties. This course has been compiled from the open online course at the Foundation, Introduction to Linux, which had 300,000 students. But, this new course is even harder. Linux Foundation says, the new course has been designed to give education about all the necessary skills to work as a system administrator in an enterprise IT environment. You can even enroll the course from edX.

The course content includes lessons on user management, system security and software management. Students can also practice their skills at around 70 labs. But people, who have strong grasp on Linux, should go for this course exclusively. The price required for this exam is $499, which doesn’t sound huge, as other similar classes cost around $1,000-$2,500. If you are comfortable with an online self-paced class then this course will be appropriate for you. We wish you all luck for your career ahead in Linux.

Twitter Removing 140 Character Limit from Direct Messages

If you all are addicted to Twitter as me and some of my friends are, here is some good message to all the Twitter fans. Twitter has this 140 characters limit for their tweets and direct messages. Now form July on wards there will be no character limit for direct message. You need not send your messages in installments. The character limits for tweets remains the same, that is 140 characters.

The character limit will be raised from just 140 to 10,000 characters. When I shared this news to my friends, one of my friend told now it will be like Facebook, he wanted to write a novel within 140 characters. Now he can elaborate his novel properly and make it clear to the readers.

Now the developers need to make their apps ready for the change. Not much needs to be changed by developers, they just need to add “full_text=true” to their query, so the change should be supported by most 3rd party applications. Sending longer messages will be supported automatically with no changes.

Motorola Moto X 1st Gen 2013 to Get Android 5.1 Lollipop Soon

Here is some good news for Motorola Moto X 1st Gen 2013 users, Android Lollipop 5.1 will soon arrive to your devices.

According to David Schuster's Google+ post, "I wanted to give a quick update on where we are with the Lollipop upgrades for the 2013 Moto X (1st Gen) devices.

We have started full soak testing in France and Germany retail this week with the expectation of full deployment next week if all goes well.

In addition, we have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week.

There were some questions about support for Lollipop upgrades from our carrier channels. We are in a number of the carrier labs now so we don't anticipate issues in getting the upgrades deployed. As you guys know.... the carrier channels typically take longer."

We will soon update you once it starts rolling up the update, till the subscribe to TechErina and stay connected with us.

Apple Announced iOS 9 at WWDC 2015

Apple announced their new operating system for iPhones and iPads, iOS 9. Apple has focused on improved performance and smaller improvements across the board.

iOS 9
iOS 9
Lets have a look at what's at new in iOS 9

Proactive Assistant to compete with Google Now

The main feature on iOS 9 has to be the Proactive Assistant. Proactive Assistant is basically a major upgrade to Apple’s virtual assistant Siri that can now give you contextual search results based on your location, search history and time of the day. For instance, if you have left your home it will tell you about your upcoming appointments at work, from your Calendar; how far you are from your destination, based on the real-time traffic situation and so on.

Proactive will also let Siri suggest apps to you, in case you are searching for something and Siri finds a relevant app for that. Just like Truecaller, Siri will now also be able identify incoming calls, if that contact detail is not already present in your contact book. A neat feature with the audio jack for instance is that when you plug in your headphones to your phone, you can directly start off from where you had exited the last time were using the music app. Just like Google Now, if there are calendar appointments in your mails which you have added to Calendar app, you will get notifications about these appointments.

According to Apple, this intelligent processing with Proactive Assistant is happening on the device itself and that your data is not being sent to any server in the cloud.

Battery improvements

Apple iOS 9 also comes with improved battery life. iOS 9 adds one hour of additional battery life to the iPhone. Moreover, the new ‘low power mode’ also helps squeeze out three hours of battery life. Your device will show a popup when the iPhone power reaches 20-10 percent of battery life.

Less space

The space required for iOS 9 has been significantly reduced. Unlike previous iOS update capacities, the space required by iOS 9 has been dropped by less than half. iOS 9 will only come as a 1.8GB installation size instead of a whopping 4.6GB of iOS 8. This would come as a big relief to combat storage issues.

Compatibility

Apple is known to drop support for older devices. However, this time, all previous devices supported by iOS 8 will run iOS 9. The free upgrade will be offered this fall. This means iOS 9 will be seen on all phones from iPhone 4S to iPhone 6 Plus; and tablets such as iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen, iPad 4th gen, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3 as well as the 5th gen iPod Touch. The low space and support for larger number of devices will ensure longevity of the usage of its devices.

Newsstand replaced with News app

Newsstand wasn’t something people cared about, and Apple decided to drop it just in time. News app that replaces Newsstand is one of the major iOS 9 announcements that basically aggregates news based on your interests, in a rich multimedia format. Think an amalgamation of Facebook Instant Articles and Flipboard and you have Apple’s News app. The News app has tied up with The New York Times for 33 articles a day (there were no details whether users will be able to access this for free or will have to shell out money, since The New York Times generally offers only 10 articles per month for free) along with magazine publisher such as Conde Nast as well as with countless bloggers. News app tends to keep the font size similar to the original source articles so that users feel that they are reading the articles on their home site. This sounds an awful lot like Facebook Instant Articles.

Just like Flipboard, the layout is rich and one can embed photo galleries as well as videos in a News app article. Also content has been optimised for both iPad and the iPhone. It will first be available in the US, UK and Australia.
